Oh Jen, Where Art Thou?

So my 3 posts a week went out the window here at the end of January, and I do profusely apologize for my absence! I wanted you to know that I had a very good reason.

Upon my return from Portland, work got inescapably busy which was manageable enough, but a fortnight ago my life turned ridiculous. After a nasty leak from our shower and house damage (water streaming from the ceiling into the living room!!!!!!!), not having a usable shower for five days, living through noisy machines and repairs… I’m moving!

Thankfully, I’m staying in the same building so the move is a bit easier, but organizing everything is still anĀ absolute pain. Hiring movers, moving your utilities, renewing renters’ insurance, furniture deliveries… and doing all of those things outside of my normal work schedule (not to mention doing it all last minute) has been both daunting and overwhelming. I’m grateful that my property hasn’t been particularly damaged (other than my couch, but I’ll survive); the leak wasn’t too far from my bookcases, and if those books were damaged I probably would have lost my gosh darn mind.

As you can imagine, however, all of these things have taken up a significant chunk of my time, hence my absence from updating three times a week.

So here’s where I’m at…

Considering that just a few weeks ago, moving wasn’t even on my mind for the immediate future… things are going incredibly fast!

I’m grateful that friends of mine are helping me move over the long weekend while the movers are coming to haul the bigger items. Here’s a glimpse of my kitchen and living room:

The best part about all this? I get to decorate. The space I’m moving into has just been renovated with all laminate floors, new appliances, cabinets, counters, and renovated bathrooms… and I get to style it! You’d best believe it’ll be super geeky, once I figure out what to do with everything.

In the meantime, I hope you’re doing well – and I hope to get back into my schedule soon! My instagram/instagram story will likely be the most updated spot for the goings-on and shenanigans related to all this, but I’ll definitely be giving you a tour of my home once it’s done (and probably in the midst of the madness too), so keep your eyes peeled. šŸ™‚

Fan Fest Portland: Day 1

I’ll have to admit, writing this post is both daunting and incredibly exciting, because I get to relive theĀ most epic weekend everĀ (I’m still not over it).

In case you missed my last several posts, I flew to Portland, OR, last weekend to attend the Walker Stalker Con / Heroes & Villains combined event Fan Fest PortlandĀ for my birthday (which was the Saturday).Ā I’m a huge fan of conventions – a place where you can unite with likeminded individuals all there to celebrate the same fandoms.

Rather than typing up a typical recap, this entire post (and the one following it for Day 2) is going to be an online diary entry of the day combined with NEW tips and tricks I learned, as well as a review not only ofĀ FFPortlandĀ as a whole, but also theĀ Platinum PassĀ product that they offer. I know many people – myself included – were curious about the pass itself (and whether it’s worth what you pay) so I hope this gives everyone some food for thought. Some of my tips will be repeated from the convention guide posts I made, but seeing situations in real time just proved my points further so I have to reiterate them.

My general convention tips will be reiterated in blue, while any comments or feedback I have about the Platinum experience will be noted in red.

Are you ready to join me while I relive the epicness? Sweet. Here we go.

Gratitude

Well. Wow. Uh, where do I even start? I meant to wake up early today to not only explore more of the city on my last day here, but also start writing my full recap of this weekend. Instead, I was running on the most epic of highs last night and didn’t sleep until 3AM… then the post-con wave of exhaustion hit me hard and I conked out til nearly noon today.

Oops.

I’m now sitting in the Seattle airport – yes, Seattle, because I have a two hour layover here – to try and string together words, but I’ve been overwhelmed with gratitude and a heck of a lot of joy, so forgive this brief post which isn’t what I had originally intended to feature today.Ā To say that this weekend exceeded my expectations is the understatement of the year, and we’re only two weeks into it.

To prove my point:

Yeah. This happened. And this isn’t evenĀ everything.

Did everything I’d intended go to plan? No, not quite.

Was it better than I’d intended?Ā Absolutely.

This Wednesday, I’ll be back to regular posting with recaps andĀ new tips and tricks I learned from my convention experience. If you’d like a few more photos and videos or me YELLING IN EXCITEMENT, please visit my instagramĀ or my twitter, asĀ I was posting often over the weekend.

Thank you especially, Tom Payne. Thank you especially, Jennifer Akerman.

Thank you to the rest of the TWD cast. Thank you to the entire Walker Stalker / FanFest crew, and Celeb Photo Ops team. This weekend was absolutely unforgettable.

29 is off to an amazing start.

In the meantime, I’m going to revel in this a bit more, so thanks for bearing with me in the meantime.

Talk soon everyone. šŸ™‚
